Cheesy Garlic Bread

Deliciously Cheesy Garlic Bread

Yield: 1-13" x 9" pan
Oven temp: 475℉
Time: 10-12 min bake

Ingredients:

For the bread:
  • 1 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 tbsp. yeast
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. oil (olive or vegetable)
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
For the garlic butter:
  • 1/4 c. salted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp. squeeze garlic (or 1 clove fresh)
  • 1/8 tsp. paprika
  • 1/8 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. parsley
  • Pinch salt
For the cheesy goodness:
  • 2-3 cups of cheese, for example: 2 1/2 c. mozzarella, 1/4 c. colby jack, 1/4 c. parmesan
  • parsley
  • oregano

Instructions:

  1. Pour the warm water into the bowl of a stand mixer and add the sugar, stir to dissolve. Sprinkle in the yeast and let sit for five minutes. Add in the salt, oil, and garlic powder then add the flour in one cup at a time with the mixer on low. Leave the dough in the stand mixer on a low-medium speed for ten minutes. Alternatively you could knead the dough by hand until it is soft and elastic. Cover the dough and let rise for 45 minutes.
  2. Take the dough out of the bowl and roll it out into a rectangle large enough to fit into a 13" x 9" baking sheet. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper (or spray it with non stick cooking spray) and gently place the dough rectangle into the pan. Press the dough into the corners of the baking sheet and then let rise for another 20 minutes.
  3. While the dough is rising, preheat the oven to 475℉. Make the garlic butter by melting a half stick of butter and then whisking in the garlic, paprika, pepper, salt, oregano, and parsley. Adjust the spices as much as you want! Once the dough finishes its second rise, brush it with the garlic butter and then top with 2-3 cups of whatever kind of cheese you like. I used mozzarella, Parmesan, and colby-jack. Sprinkle parsley and/or oregano over the top.
  4. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the bottom of the crust is golden and the cheese has browned slightly.
