Spiced Apple Cake

One Bowl Spiced Apple Cake

Yield: 1 8" cake
Time: 20 min prep, 40-45 min bake



Ingredients:

  • 2 granny smith apples
  • 1/2 c. salted butter
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/3 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla
  • 2 tbsp. sour cream
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. cloves
  • Sugar for sprinkling

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350℉ and line the bottom of an 8" springform pan with parchment paper.
  2. Wash and peel the apples and cut them into cubes. Set aside.
  3. In a medium sized mixing bowl cream together the butter and sugars until light an fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and then mix in the vanilla, sour cream, and lemon juice.
  4. Sift in the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves and mix until just combined. Fold in the apples and then spoon the batter into the springform pan. Sprinkle white sugar across the top of the cake batter.
  5. Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out of the center of the cake clean.
  6. Cool the cake for around five minutes and then remove the cake from the pan an cool completely on a wire rack. Cut and eat.
